What is the best time to exercise? People give out varied and valid reasons why exercise cannot be a part of their daily activities. With all the things that an average person has to accomplish every day, it is no wonder why a schedule for exercise is difficult to keep. Most people who do have an exercise plan opt to have it either at the start of the day or after work. Are there advantages to getting it out of the way first thing in the morning versus leaving it until the end of the day?

Circadian rhythms rule our waking and sleeping cycles. It rules our biochemical, physiological and behavioral processes that make up our 24 hour day. Circadian rhythms can be reset based upon environmental or external cues. The time of day when we exercise is one such cue. For instance, people who consistently work out in the morning condition their body for exercise during this time. When they switched their workouts in the afternoons, they were not as strong.

Some people are just naturally morning people. These people tend to schedule their strenuous activities in the morning and feel so much better for it. Morning exercisers are also observed to be more consistent and are more likely to stick to their fitness regimen than those who workout in the afternoon.

For most people however, exercising in the afternoon is the more attractive option and rightly so, because there's research to back that up as well. According to studies, the best time to exercise is when our temperatures are at their highest. This usually falls between 4 to 5 in the afternoon (temperatures are at its lowest in the morning, upon waking up). Afternoon exercisers report greater strength and endurance. Based on these studies, strength builds up as the day progresses with a 5% increase at midday and an additional 5% increase in the late afternoon when temperatures are at its highest. Endurance also increases by 4% in the afternoon. We are more alert and we become more flexible when our muscles are warmed up, thus, making us less prone to injury. Point per point, afternoon exercisers tend to be at an advantage. However, some studies warn against exercising three hours before bedtime so as not to disrupt your sleeping pattern.

So what is the best time to exercise? We have to remember that what works for one may not work for another. You have to observe yourself and take into consideration other factors that affect your schedule. If you find out that the only free time you can spare for exercise is one you don't like, its ok. Aside from being able to adapt to the time your schedule permits, your body will still thank you for giving it the exercise it needs.

I recently had the pleasure to try the Bowflex dumbbells. Since I saw this, I thought they were the best thing in the history of fitness equipment. So I thought it was time to try them.

The product is very impressive. You get 15 sets of dumbbells from 5 pounds - 52.5 pounds (2.5 increments to 25 and then £ 5 to 50) in two pairs of dumbbells. The way in which the work is simply a dial tone again, the amount of weight you want on all four sides andaway you go!

-This set is the ultimate space saver. With only two pairs of dumbbells, you will not have to dedicate an entire room together with a weight. You can also take home or a place with friends for a workout.

-You look really cool! Especially with the state, which is sold separately for about $ 150.

-An interesting feature is thathave offset weight selection. You can do curls or extensions in the head with one side heavier than the others, for an extra challenge. They advertise this as a unique feature, but people have been loaded with this weight forever. However, there is still an advantage over fixed weights, and a transition much easier than changing discs.

-A lot of people say that they are expensive. They are not real and why I have this problem as a professional. A set of 15 good quality dumbbellswould cost $ 775. The Bowflex range from $ 400-500. And 'more or less convenient. The weight is also available, much cheaper than a certain weight dumbbell rack. This is a good value.

Disadvantages of Bowflex SelectTech

A maximum weight of 52.5 pounds can not be limited to a few people. You can use a larger amount of up to 90 pounds. And 'more expensive but at around $ 700-800.

-A common complaint about this product is that the disks that are not usedsometimes holding the handlebars. If it pulls off the base, a plate of weight, which is not used, it may fly out. This can really hurt floors or feet! This is actually the first time I tried them successfully. The best solution to this problem is to shake a little 'before takeoff. This has happened since my customers (who have the dumbbells) has found the trick tremble.

-You look a bit 'weak. The Bowflex SelectTech is also a warning not tofall. I do not think that many people throw their weight around at home anyway (even in the gym there is this strange phenomenon of weight to throw), but I am still a bit 'nervous break when they fall randomly from a bank.

-Most is about a factor of this product, what will happen if they break? Even one. The entire set is ruined. Bowflex offers a 5 year warranty. I personally do not think it's long enough! Imagine losing 15 sets of dumbbells all at once. Thewould be devastating!

Bottom Line

The Bowflex SelectTech is fun to use and it looks really REALLY cool! I think it's a great product to buy. Especially if you are trying to save space. The only thing that would actually stop me from buying these are the risk that they are not durable enough to last years and years. At least with free weights you know they are practically indestructible.

The cons listed have solutions, like buying the heavier set and basically being a little more cautious with them then a normal weight set. These are things that are not a terrible inconvenience. It just takes a little bit more consideration.
